Colombia’s February exports up 23% on year Reply

Colombia’s exports for February 2012 stood at $4.8 billion, an increase of 22.5% on the same month last year, according the national statistics agency DANE.

In February 2011 exports stood at $3.9 billion.

The growth in the value of exports was largely due to a 29.6% increase in the export of fuel and products from extractive industries. The value of manufacturing exports increased by 11.4% while exports from the agriculture, food and beverage sector fell by 14%.

In February, the United States received 38% of Colombian exports, making it the principal importer. The European Union accounted for 19%, while China and the Andean Community imported 7% and 5.5% respectively.

The Andean Community is a customs union made up of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.
