A high level Microsoft delegation will be in Bhutan in September this year to discuss for a comprehensive cooperation with the ministry of information and communications.
Microsoft’s visit to Bhutan is one of the outcomes of the meeting the Prime Minister Jigmi Y Thinley and information secretary Dasho Kinley Dorji had with the Microsoft Managing Director Frank McCosker in Rio De Janeiro this week on the sidelines of the Rio+20 conference.
Some of the activities include Microsoft software for research, governance, mobile applications and the technology for last mile connectivity to reach the unreached. They also discussed the possibility of Microsoft setting up a high end BPO and software development in Bhutan.
Lyonchhen informed Microsoft’s managing director that Bhutan is preparing itself as an ICT investment hub to achieve Bhutan’s goal of an ICT enabled knowledge based society. Dasho Kinley Dorji said Microsoft could potentially be a substantial partner in Bhutan’s ICT industry.
