PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – Nobel peace price laureate Muhammad Yunus announced that his group would providing loans and equity investments to several Haitian businesses. The financing will range from $80,000 to $500,000 with interest rates from 6-10%.The

Associated Press reported that the projects include two poultry farms, a bakery and a plantation of jatropha plants that can be used for biodiesel.

It was the second time Yunus had come to Haiti since visiting a year ago. The Yunus Social Business Fund based in Germany opened an office in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.

Yunus sits on the Presidential Advisory Board for Investment, established by President Michel Martelly and once had former U.S. President Bill Clinton and Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe as its chairmen.

Yunus plans to also launch a social business competition for university students before leaving Monday.
