PORT-AU-PRINCE -”Beyond the mountains,” according to a well-known Haitian proverb, there are “more mountains.” It’s an apt line in a country that has faced outsized challenges for as long as anyone can remember, but one that can only begin to describe the trials posed by the catastrophic 7.0 magnitude earthquake, which rocked the half-island nation three years ago. A mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) headed by M. Boileau Loko visited Port-au-Prince from June 4 to 8, 2012 for discussions related to the Fourth Review under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) arrangement.[1] The mission met with Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, Minister of Economy and Finance, Marie Carmelle Jean-Marie, Minister Delegate responsible for human rights and combating extreme poverty, Marie Carmèle Rose Anne Auguste, Governor of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti Charles Castel, other senior government officials, and representatives of the banking sector and development partners. PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) – Four measures to enable investment in Haiti have been adopted following the First Forum of the General Assembly on Investment, announced Wednesday the Minister-resigned of Trade and Industry Wilson Laleau pulling a positive assessment of the event.
“The goal of this activity,” reported Haiti Press Network, was to bring together key stakeholders to identify factors acting as barriers to investment and to provide solutions,” said Laleau.

Money transfers by mobile phone for home repairs in Haiti, a world first. Since early March, Haitian families began receiving cash payments through the first mechanism of money transfer via mobile phones to support housing reconstruction after the disaster.
More than 2,000 mobile money transfers are planned in the next three months to 1,000 low-income families receiving subsidies totaling US$500 to purchase construction materials such as cement, iron and wood at selected project-certified stores for high-quality assurance at affordable prices.
